With the First Season of the Championship Gaming Series officially being over, its time to reflect back on what went wrong, and look forward to the Second Season, and the changes it will have. For Counter-Strike: Source, the change came in the shape of the players, where its possible for General Managers to now swap players in the roster.
Fredrik "
vizzion" Nilsson, who was apart of the Stockholm Magnetik Counter-Strike: Source team from Season 1 decided to write an article based on the certain things needed to make the perfect team that works together to win. In the article Fredrik goes through many points, including how to treat each player, when giving or receiving criticism about ones style of play.
So for those teams out there who always wanted to have that little piece of advise from a professional gamer on making the best team possible check out this article below!
To make a successful team you have to combine the right amount of skill and chemistry within the team. To make this happen you always have to make a foundation of maybe two or three players who already know each other from the past.
When you have the foundation you can start looking for players that fits your off game and in game style what I mean by that is, if you know a player can play and he is a nice guy who is always happy and responds well to the criticism he probably will get when you play he might be a guy you should consider to be a part of you team. In my opinion you don't always have to pick the best player to be the winning team. Its no sport if you can pick the best players then be the best team? You have to work to become the best team and it will take some time and effort.
When you have found the five man lineup its time to start playing and see what you can do to become the number one team, you have to play together for a while before you can pick strats and positions on every map to make sure you have adjusted your game style and position to the players best interest.
Criticism is necessary from every player to make sure you all work together if you don't work as a team you will never make it as a team either. People respond differently on criticism and it can sometimes be very hard for players to accept other people telling them what they think is right, if you want to give criticism you have to make sure you have an argument that states your point in this situation, you cant just say ”YOU SUCK YOU HAVE TO DO THIS BLA BLA” instead try and explain WHY you think this way and then put it into an example so the person doesn't feel like you are trying to run him down. I can take my self for an example, player A told me a few things about my game style but didn't give me any example of what he meant so I couldn't respond very well to his criticism, but when he came up with some examples what I could do instead it all seemed very clear and I took a few minutes and thought about it, and it all made sense. What you might not think about is that every player on the team has their own mind, and his own goal and possibly a different game style to you. This can affect everyone in the team if you don't learn how to work with that person ingame and off game. So to end the part with criticism, THINK before you criticize and be prepared to be criticized.
Everyone knows that you can't build a winning team without any strats, when you make different strats always make sure which game style you want to use. Are you playing it slow and trying to get picks before you attack the bomb sites, or will you set people up and make a flash combo then rush, or will you just attack a bomb spot with the whole lineup and take the opposition down. There are many ways to win. If you have a mixture of game styles in every person you can always mix the strats up to make the opponents more confused. I will use my self as an example again, I like to be the first one to enter a site if we push hard, I like to run and try to get the weird kills and spray and pray when I'm half blind, this can be used for me to make different fakes and just to clear the area outside a site, when that is done the in game leader will make a call where to do the main attack. If YOU are the in game leader of a team you will have to learn how everyone plays to use them in different situations, its a very tough job to do and you will always be the one to blame if something doesn't work because you are suppose to know what to do. Once you have figured out how the players think and how they act in different situations it will be easy for you to come up with new strats and positions for the different players.
When all this is done you just have to practice, practice, practice, practice and you know practice!
